2nd June 2010 - Alice Camp Ground - Clarence River

Off the Bruxner Highway West of Tabulam is the turn off along Top Plains Road to the Clarence River Camping Area at Alice. Suitable for self contained vehicles, this camping area is well grassed with some shade beside the river. There are plenty of level sites that are easily accessed on the eastern side of the bridge. For those wishing to travel further south, the road continues through to Grafton. We found this a great place to spend some time and do a bit of fishing and cow watching.

22nd May 2010 - Duck Creek - Tabulam / Bonalbo District

Located on the Clarence River and reached by turning off the Bruxner Highway onto Paddys Flat Road just west of Tabulam and following the sealed road for about 17k until you come to Hootons Road and then following this newly graded road for 8.2k until you reach the bridge. Both sides of the road are accessible to campers though the eastern side is more Caravan / Motorhome friendly. We suggest parking off the road near the bridge and walking around the area to find a suitable site. There are no facilities provided but the river water is crystal clear and suitable for washing. The area is well shaded and grassy and has easy access to the river. Traffic past this camping site during our stay was approximately 4 vehicles a day. We recommend this site as a place to “getaway” from it all and do a bit of fishing.

15th May 2010 - Evans Head - North Coast

Located east of Woodburn and South of Ballina, Evans Head is a holiday maker’s paradise. The town has great entertainment facilities including an RSL, Bowling Club, Surf Club and a Hotel. There are ample riverside walking tracks and picnic areas. The fish co-op has plenty of fish products for those unable to catch any, either off the beach or in the river. Within reasonable distances are the towns of Lismore and Ballina that have a greater variety of stores for those who wish to “spend a quid” at the bigger shops. Evans Head has an IGA, as well as other small village stores and can cater well for those who visit this little piece of heaven.

10th February 2009 - Yuraygir National Park - Maclean / Grafton District

On the coast between Yamba and Red Rock lies Yuraygir National Park with plenty of camping sites suitable for most rigs. Lake Arragan and Red Cliff accessible by turning off at Maclean towards Brooms Head have long drop composting toilets, water which is available at the entrance to the camp sites, large sites with tables, some shade and easy access to the beach and lake.

Camping site Illaroo is accessed from Minnie Water and has 2 areas containing 60 sites, some of which are adjacent to, and has 4WD access to the beach. As mentioned in the Warrumbungle entry, prices are very high for interstate visitors. Push bike riding, swimming and fishing along the beach is popular but can be very crowded during holiday periods. A great place to spend a few days and we recommend this camping area if in the vicinity.
