22nd September 2011 - Lake Wyangan

Just 8k North West of Griffith - through Lake Wyangan Town along a sealed road brings you to Lake Wyangan where camping is permitted for 72 hours on a large open and shaded area that overlooks the lake, close to the boat ramp and shelter shed that has a sink and BBQ. The septic toilets have cold showers and are cleaned daily by the resident caretaker who locks the gate of the camping area each night for added security. Next to the camping area is a miniature zoo that houses some deer, goats, mules, a large pig and other smaller animals. A great place to stay while viewing the surrounding district.

17th September 2011 - Yang Yang Reserve - Maude - Hay District, NSW

UPDATE

The small settlement of Maude is 52k west of Hay along a bitumen road. The reserve is located just south of the Matthews Bridge which crosses the Murrumbidgee River at Maude. Opposite the General Store is the Maud Weir Reserve which has a shady picnic spot with BBQ facilities. Approximately 200metres further along the road is the Post Office Hotel where refreshments and meals are available.

Camping in the Yang Yang Reserve is NOW OVERGROWN AND ACCESS TO THE RIVER IS DIFFICULT AND IS NO LONGER THE PRISTINE SITE IT ONCE WAS. Small boats CAN NO LONGER be launched from the Reserve. THE TOILET HAS BEEN VANDALISED AND NO LONGER USABLE. The camping spots are a pleasant 20 minute walk from town over the bridge.

10th November 2007 - Johnston Park - Hay Weir - Hay, NSW

Only 14k west Of Hay on Maude Road - is the turn off to Johnston Park at Hay Weir. Only 2k of reasonable dirt road brings you to the weir which has a shelter shed, toilets, shade, free BBQ, tables, and large areas close to the Murrumbidgee River for camping. When travelling to this site, watch out for a short track to the river about 6k from Hay which looks like an excellent fishing spot. Unfortunately, there were many large dead trees which made it a bit risky for camping. This spot is worth a look and if not suitable, Johnston Park is the place to stay. There were toilets at Johnston Park but have now been removed because of vandalism.

9th October 2007 - Four Post Camp Ground - Deniliquin, NSW

Just 9k South of Deniliquin on the Edward River, is the location of then Four Post Camp which is accessible by following the Cobb Highway and then turning East 3k South of Deniliquin. and following the signs. Hot showers, a free washing machine, camp fires, sewerage toilets, well shaded sites, fishing, a boat ramp, mini golf, and an obstacle course are all available. Although catering as a kids camp, this resort is an excellent place to stay when children are on school holidays or on weekends. Your hosts, Marg and Ray will make you feel most welcome.
