28th June 2006 - Araluen Creek Camping Area – 24k South of Braidwood, between Batemans Bay & Queanbeyan in the southern highlands, is a well-treed area only limited by low branches in some areas. Adjacent to a creek (Dry) it is a nice place to get away from it all as there is not much to do except sit by a fire to try and keep warm. Probably a beaut spot in summer. A hotel is located approx. 3.5k South of the camping area where meals are available. The town itself has several churches, and a few houses, in a mainly cattle producing area. The road from Braidwood is sealed all the way, but the last 7k is very steep and winding. Good brakes are required to navigate this road. The roads from Araulen to either Majors Creek or Moruya, are dirt and both are unsuitable for caravans etc. There is a shelter shed with a fireplace and long drop toilets that leave a lot to be desired and would be used only in an emergency. The water tank was empty while we were there
