19th September 2007 – Micalong Creek Reserve - Wee Jasper

Approximately 70k from Yass, the camping area at Micalong Creek Reserve is a huge area beside Micalong Creek. Camping is provided both sides of the creek and on both sides of the road. One set of toilets is septic and has a cold shower. Other camp areas have long drop toilets. A walk from the main camping area takes you to a swimming hole (350 meters) and a further 50 meters to a waterfall. We were unable to reach the waterfall due to the steep climb. On the other side of the road through the camping area is a track that runs beside the creek and takes you to the junction of the Goodradigbee River and Micalong Creek. The walk to the junction takes about 20 minutes and is suitable for even us olds. At the junction is a large swimming hole and a fire trail that follows the river down towards the Swinging Bridge Reserve. We recommend that you follow the fire trail until the road starts to go up hill (approx. 45-minute walk), as there appears to be plenty of deep holes and platypus burrows along the bank. This is one of the best walking tracks that we have been on and is highly recommended.
