30th October 2011 - Bingara Riverside Camping

Opposite the hospital, on Bundarra (Copeton Dam) Road, there is a track through the gate that leads to campsites on the banks of the Gwydir River that are suitable for self contained Caravans and Motorhomes. The selection of sites enables level, open and shaded camping right on the edge of the river. The track into the campsites is reasonable and can be navigated without any difficulty. We found our site by taking the time to get out and have a walk further along the track where there was plenty of room for several campers. There are no facilities, so be prepared with fresh water, food and toilet facilities. There is a time limit of 7 nights at this site.

10th January 2009 - Burren Junction Baths Reserve

Burren Junction Baths Reserve is located about 3k East of Burren Junction. This oasis in the desert is fully fenced with limited shade near the fence. A shower is within the fenced area and toilets are adjacent to the reserve. There are large open camping areas close by with fire places but wood supply is limited. Unfortunately, we found the baths closed until the 3rd March 2009 due to evaporation. We look forward to returning here in the future.

5th January 2009 - Alex Trevallion Park - Walgett

About 2k south of Walgett is Alex Trevallion Park that is well shaded, level, has water, clean toilets, shelter sheds and a water spout to keep you cool if the breeze is blowing in the right direction. Although we didn’t encounter any locals during our stay, they may be a problem as this park is very close to town. A good morning / afternoon tea rest area if travelling further on past Walgett.

24th December 2008 - Tareelaroi Weir - Moree District

About 15k East of Moree along the Gwydir Highway is a turnoff along Tareelaroi Weir Road. Follow this reasonable dirt road for approximately 3k until you come to the weir observation area. Back track and take the track to the left until you come to the picnic and camping area. This level well grassed area has a composting toilet, plenty of shade, a boat ramp, and wood BBQ, all adjacent to the river. Used for water sports, this area would be popular during week ends and school holidays. Our trip on a Thursday found the place deserted. We recommend this spot if in the Moree area.

17th December 2008 - Gum Flat Public Reserve - Moree District

Located about 58k west of Warialda and about-25k east of Moree, this large camping area is suitable for self contained vehicles only - There is a signed turnoff to the Reserve on the main highway from Warialda to Moree and the park is about 2k north of the highway. The reasonable dirt track takes you to the second camp site besides Gwyder River which has limited shade as the trees are surrounded with thorn bushes. There are plenty of good fishing sites and easy river access and plenty of level sites although the grass is a bit long .Plenty of feral goats inhabit this area but keep well away from campsites.
