22nd July 2007 - Blatherarm Camping Area Torrington, NSW

Located at Torrington west of Glen Innes & Tenterfield, this State Conservation Area is about 12k from Torrington along a reasonable dirt road. Consisting of three Camping locations, each with sites adjacent to the creek, this well wooded area is a great place to spend a week or so. There are a couple of bush walks but the most enjoyable part is the serenity. Pit toilets are located at each camping area that also have fire places and tables. The water in the creek is suitable for washing only so bring plenty when you come here. In winter (now) the temperature gets below Zero at night and freezes the creeks. The walk to Ugly Corner Falls takes about 2 hours return on a well defined track which follows a gully with some non-white children (black boys) beside the walkway. We stayed for 5 days and had no visitors other than the wild life. Fossicking is encouraged and there are plenty of spots to look for gemstones such as beryl, emerald, topaz and quartz crystal.
