20th July 2007 - Nomads Picnic Area - Torrington, NSW

Nomads Picnic Area which is in the district of Tenterfield and Glen Innes is only a few hundred meters from the thriving metropolis of Torrington which boasts no shops, no pub and not much else is the starting point of a bush walk to Thunderbolts Lookout. This 2k medium grade walk includes steps climbing through a rock shelter and up a five meter ladder at the last 200 meters. Once there, a 360ยบ panoramic view rewards the hiker. At the picnic area are tables, fireplaces, and a pit toilet. There is also an all weather cooking galley complete with kitchen tools (teapot, spoons etc.) and a large fireplace to keep warm. The temperature at this time of the year gets to below Zero during the night and frozen puddles are a common sight. This spot is recommended for a coffee break or meal prior to venturing on to Blatherarm Camping areas located about 11k from Torrington in Torrington State Conservation Area. (We lied about Torrington. There is a caravan park for those that require the comforts of home) - Access from Deepwater is a better road to Torrington
